Twenty-five years ago, a newly-published book on the evolution of the Earth and its inhabitants made a big local impact in Australia.
Called NUTEERIAT, an acronym for Nut Trees, the Expanding Earth, Rottnest Island, and All That…, the book showed how expansion of the Earth in its geological past could be demonstrated by a study of the distributions of nut trees.
The book also contained many fundamentally new suggestions on topics such as the very different atmospheres in the planet’s past, suggestions which have only recently come into general acceptance.
